Servant Leadership

servant first

Robert K. Greenleaf first coined the phrase "servant leadership" in his 1970 essay, "The Servant as a Leader." However, it's an philosophy innovative leaders have lived by for centuries.

As a servant leader, you're a "servant first" – the leaders focus on the needs of others, especially team members, before the leader considers their own needs. Leaders acknowledge other people's perspectives, give their team the support they need to meet their work and personal goals, involve them in decisions building a community within the team. This leads to increased innovation, higher engagement, increased confidence, and stronger relationships with team members and other stakeholders.
